Your Website: A Love-Hate Relationship
We all know that in business today, it's necessary to have a website.
Every restaurant, every bar, every business knows that it just makes good sense to have a web presence. It just does.
It's been my
experience that restaurants have a love-hate relationship with their website. If you have a nice looking
website, and you take care of it, and you can
find the right people to manage it for you, it isn't hard to appreciate your site and what it does for you. If your website drives traffic through the front
door and causes people to remember
the restaurant name, brand, menu or location, you absolutely adore it!
The truth is a website can be an extremely powerful
tool. It's like having an office outside of
your restaurant that does nothing but work for
you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It's easy to hate your website if certain pieces of the puzzle are missing. For example, if you have trouble finding someone to
design and update your website, to make it look great and
function with cool and pragmatic interactivity,
then your website has the capability to actually hurt your business.
A bad website can actually take away business
and money. No one wants to lose money.
When people on the Internet actually go to your
website or try to find your website unsuccessfully or they do find it but it's hideously ugly and a poor representation
of your restaurant--chances are, they're not going to
dine there, even though the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is sublime.
Seriously, if you still have an ad for
a 2007 New Year's party posted on your site, people will
think you're out of business and out of your mind.
Don't let this happen to you.
